Policy: TCBC Bicycle Trips Awards

Our current policy was approved by the AYH (now HI) Board of Directors and became effective in 1991. The TCBC Operating Committee decided to continue the policy when the club was formed in 1993, making slight changes in the wording. This will continue now that TCBC has become an independent club. Statistics will continue to be kept and some bicyclists will win awards in certain categories.

To give everyone a fair chance, any trip or event that "counts" must have been listed in the TCBC newsletter ahead of time. The only exception: an event that is postponed but rescheduled and held before the next newsletter is printed. Statistics will be kept for all participants, but only those with current TCBC memberships will be eligible to receive bicycle mileage or leadership awards.

TCBC members do not receive mileage credit for non-TCBC events (as listed in the TCBC schedule). When TCBC trippers participate in an official TCBC group trip to a non-TCBC event, credit is given only for the TCBC trip to the event, not the event itself. To be an eligible event, there must be at least two participants in addition to the leader.  If a non-TCBC event is an Outreach ride, mileage credit applies (2005).

The participation year begins on November 1 and ends October 31 of the following year. Special cases will be decided by the TCBC Board if necessary. Anyone questioning their mileage or other awards must request revisions or an explanation IN WRITING or by E-MAIL by April 15 of the year following the year for which the awards are given.

The system depends completely on trip reports, and leaders are urged to submit them within 2-3 weeks after their trips, and to make their reports as accurate and legible as possible. At the leader's discretion, mileage credit can be adjusted from the original advertised mileage, if in the leader's judgment the conditions warrant it.
