Founded in 1973 as Bikecentennial, Adventure Cycling Association is America's premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to bicycle travel with nearly 40,000 members nationwide.
  • American Red Cross: Health & Safety Tips: Heat Related Illness - Information and tips on how to deal with high environmental temperatures. When it’s summertime it usually means activities and fun under the sun! Whether you love putting on shorts and feeling the warm outdoors, or find it hot and sticky, everyone must be careful not to let a heat-related illness spoil the day.
  • The Bicycling Community Page serves Dane County, Wisconsin, USA with information on events, bicycle transportation advocacy, touring, off-road riding, local bike shops, commuting, racing, weather, and news reports. It serves the global community with an annotated hierarchical list of hundreds of links to other bicycling related sites around the world. The page is edited by Darin Burleigh , is hosted at DANEnet, and is a project of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance of Dane County and the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin .
  • The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (BFW) is a statewide, nonprofit, bicycle advocacy organization with more than 2,500 members. Working to make Wisconsin a better place is what it is all about.
  • Bicycling Life - The purpose of Bicycling Life is to promote bicycling by demonstrating that legal cycling on streets, roads, and highways is safe, clean, healthy, enjoyable, economical, and beneficial to society, and to provide bike riders with the information and encouragement they need to become vehicular cyclists.
  • Classic Rendezvous The purpose of this not-for-profit site is to encourage those interested in enjoying and preserving vintage lightweight "racing" style bicycles of the period from the early 20th century until 1983. The goals are: identification of makers, presenting of pictures of fine bicycles and information about the marques & their history, offering information about resources and, finally, offering camaraderie among the buffs.
  • Duluth Superior Metropolitan Bike Map The map displays off-road trails, such as the Willard Munger and Western Waterfront Trails in Duluth (MN) and the Osaugie and Millennium Trails in Superior (WI). The map also identifies on-street signed bike routes in Duluth and Hermantown and other recommended unsigned on-street routes throughout the Twin Ports area.
  • Heat Exhaustion information from the Centers for Disease Control People suffer heat-related illness when the body’s temperature control system is overloaded. The body normally cools itself by sweating. But under some conditions, sweating just isn’t enough. In such cases, a person’s body temperature rises rapidly. Very high body temperatures may damage the brain or other vital organs. More information from the CDC website.

  • National Weather Service: Heat Wave/ Heat Index information - Heat kills by taxing the human body beyond its abilities. In a normal year, about 175 Americans succumb to the demands of summer heat. Among the large continental family of natural hazards, only the cold of winter -- not lightning, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, or earthquakes -- takes a greater toll. In the 40-year period from 1936 through 1975, nearly 20,000 people were killed in the United States by the effects of heat and solar radiation. In the disastrous heat wave of 1980, more than 1,250 people died.

  • Trails from Rails This website was designed to give cyclists a list of many of the best bicycle touring trails in the US. All of the trails on this site are paved or are crushed limestone/gravel, so that they are navigable on touring or cross-bikes. Many of these pathways also allow cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding and roller blading. Most of the routes go through numerous small towns and give the rider a chance to see and experience rural America
